Dental Hygiene Treatments

Our experienced hygienists provide detailed and precise treatments. The aim is to maintain gums and teeth in a healthy manner throughout the patient’s life. This is done by thorough treatments encompassing all tooth and gum needs.

There are various treatment options provided, depending on the degree of surface staining of teeth. The regular hygiene appointment will include an observation and recording of dental status. This will be followed by full scaling of all the teeth using both hand instrumentation and ultrasonic equipment.

Following this will be polishing with special dentifrice paste, in some cases high velocity water and air spray combined with sodium bicarbonate crystals will be used for more difficult stains.

Airflow (which is a piece of specialist equipment) will be used to remove stubborn stains.

Where there is deep pocketing and gum problems, then extended hygiene sessions will be needed. In cases like these, the roots of all the teeth will be specially cleaned and smoothed to allow for regeneration of the gums.

If further treatment is necessary, then specialist referrals to a periodontist will be required.
